I'M A NIGERIA
In the mid-nineties
I was born into the economy of naira not cedies
Surviving as a child
Through my parents being my guide.
I was sage enough
Knowing I wasn’t born with a silver spoon.
Who am I to question?
A Nigerian blossomed with many passions.
A Nigerian
Cramped to a single deen.
A Nigerian
Finding it hard to use the waste bin
A Nigerian
Accustomed to the Yoruba, my indigenous language
A Nigerian
Who learned the word of ‘HUSTLING’
Pedantic enough that ‘No food for a lazy man’.
A Nigerian
Seems to be sometimes patriotic
And on a bad day being traitorous
A Nigerian
Ill at ease of her social structure
Motivated towards being known as the giant of Africa
A Nigerian
Carrying a burden as a bread winner
I fought hard with the crashed economy
Being raped by impotent leaders.
A Nigerian
Used to darkness
Burning candles at both ends
Before screaming ‘UP NEPA’
A Nigerian
Enduring a lot of social maladies
Believing being liberated from the status quo is not a fallacy
I am a Nigerian
For the pros she fain
For the cons that drained her oils
I will forever be a Nigerian.
